Essex Tops Falcons 44-34
ESSEX–The North Country girls had well played, hard fought game against the Essex Hornets, but in the end they came up on the short end of the stick, falling by ten 44-34.
"It was a great game," said coach Christiane Brown, "It was a back and forth, well controlled contest."
After being down by one 12-11 after one, the Falcons went on the attack to go up 21-16 at the half.
"We were super disciplined. By shortening the game we limited them from getting their running game going," said Brown.

Falcons Drop Sixth in Row, Lose to MMU 75-38

NEWPORT–The North Country boys basketball team is in a state of flux right now. The team has been trying to establish an identity as a defensive minded physically and mentally tough group, but with a stream of players going in and out of the line-up as of late, it has been tough.
"We started off 4-3 and we are now 4-9. We are on a six game losing streak and we are frustrated," said coach Brian Bonvechio, "We feel like we are playing hard enough, but we are not getting things done that we need to."

Athletic Danville Knocks off Ranger Boys 63-57

ORLEANS-With a four game wining streak under their belts, the Lake Region Rangers looked to continue the trend. Visiting Danville had other ideas as they pulled away late for a 63-57 victory. The Indian backcourt had their way with the Rangers guards as Kyle Johnson and Scott Remick combined for 41 points for Danville. The tandem forced numerous turnovers, laying the groundwork for the Indians’ eleventh win of the year.

Nordic Falcons Flourish at Mt. Hor.

WESTMORE–With perfect weather conditions and lightly falling snow to accent the mood, the North Country Nordic teams had a great day at the races on Saturday.
The Falcon girls won the race with a score of 22, besting hosts St. Johnsbury and two other teams to earn the win. The NCU boys came in third with a score of 49 behind St. Johnsbury in first and Burlington in second.

Ranger Girls Give Oxbow All They Want Before Falling 45-41

ORLEANS-They say most times you learn more from a loss than a win. That will probably be the case as Coach Mark Tinker’s valiant Ranger girls gave 12-1 Oxbow everything they wanted and more before falling 45-41 at the Don Harter Gymnasium over the weekend.

Falcon Wrestling Takes Sixth Place at Mount Mansfield Tournament

JERICHO–The North Country wrestling team was the top finishing Vermont school in weekend tournament action. The crew took home sixth place out of seventeen teams, and coach Chris Mandigo was very pleased with his teams efforts.
“They wrestled extremely well, and I am very proud of them.”
Here are the results from the tournament:
1) Makenzie Steel (Lake Region), 120lbs, had two good matches. Did not place.
2) Josh Tompkins, 145lbs, went 1/2, did not place, pinned Spaulding opponent Anthony Duchamel-Garcia in 38 seconds.

Chargers Can’t Hang on, Drop Contest to Chelsea 54-42

CRAFTSBURY—The Lady Chargers played host to the Chelsea Red Devils Saturday afternoon and after a hard fought contest that saw Craftsbury leading entering the 4th quarter, it was too much Chelsea late as the Devils were able to pull away for a 54-42 victory.
The Red Devils jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before Thalia Thomas knocked down a long 3 pointer to get the Chargers on the board. They would grab their first lead of the contest at 11-10, just before the buzzer when Hattie Brochu scored off a full court lob pass from Iva Wright.

Chargers Trail Early, Storm Back to Win by 15

CRAFTSBURY – On Saturday, the Chargers pulled away from the Chelsea Red Devils late to secure a 54-39 victory.
Craftsbury Academy wasted little time jumping out on top, after winning the opening tip-off Andrew Marckres laid it in for 2, just 13 seconds into the game. Chelsea would claim their first lead of the contest when Brandon Poulin connected on a long 3 to gain a 6-5 edge. Aided by a 2-12 run, Craftsbury would find themselves trailing 18-7 at the end of 1 quarter of play.

Falcons Falter Late, Fall to Seahorses 44-38

NEWPORT – The North Country Lady Falcons played host to the Burlington Seahorses Friday night. After a tight contest throughout, the Seahorses were able to pull away to a 44-38 victory.
The Falcons struggled offensively to start the contest, the were 0-7 from the field before Noelle Pinard would get them on the board with a nice base-line up-and-under to cut the score to 4-2 6 minutes into the contest. Anna Bingham would launch a long 3-pointer from 25 feet, coupled with a successful and-1 to give North Country their first lead of the contest, 8-7 at the end of the opening frame.

North Country Cruises Past U-32 With 5-1 Victory

JAY–With their overtime win against MMU in the rearview mirror, the North Country girls hockey team cruised to the 5-1 win over U-32 Friday night at the Ice Haus Arena.
Said coach Claude Paul, "We talked before the game about that we have had a habit lately of playing two periods, or a period and a half, but never three, and that is what I wanted them to play tonight.
"Granted in the first we had our moments, but I think that is more a feeling out of your opponent at that time of the game."
