Websterville Warriors Dominate Crusaders 93-27

NEWPORT–In the second half of the double-header, it was the UCA boys squaring off against the Websterville Baptist Warriors. The contest could be called a soul crushing defeat for United Christian, as the Crusaders as dropped the game 93 -27 to the Warriors.
"Obviously the score reflects that they were definitely the better team today," said Coach Tony DeLaBruere.
At the start of the game UCA seemed to be able to run with the quick moving Warriors.

Crusaders Burned by Red Devils 65-23

NEWPORT–It was a tough day at the court for the UCA Lady Crusaders on Tuesday, as they fell to the Chelsea Red Devils 65-23.
The first quarter started out optimistically for UCA. The two teams traded baskets with Laura Libby putting up six points in the opening eight minutes to lead the Crusaders.
"I was very pleased to have us come out and play in the first quarter," said coach Sarah Roy,"They pressed us and we handled the press ok."

Falcon Girls Double Up MMU 6-3

JAY–After back to back years of thrilling overtime wins and crushing lopsided defeats against Mount Mansfield, the North Country girls hockey team finally had their revenge, dominating the Cougars in a 6-3 win Thursday night.
"It was great," said assistant coach Tracy Muzerall, who has felt the Cougars' bite in the past, "Every year every teams' dynamic is different and this year we have a great group of girls and a great group of freshman who are stepping up to the plate and playing lead roles on the team."

Stone Stops 12 to Earn First Metro Win

JAY–In the second game of the hockey double header, the stands were full of recent North Country graduates, on hand to watch their alma mater win a close 3-2 game over the Burlington Seahorses.
In their first encounter, the Falcons scored four goals in five minutes en route to an 8-3 win at Leddy Park.
This game would be much different.
North Country had the momentum early, but penalties slowed them down and allowed Burlington to take the advantage through the middle stages of the first period.

Falcons Knock off T-Birds 61-51

NEWPORT-- The North Country Falcons faced off against the Missisquoi Thunderbirds for the 2nd time in 2 weeks on Friday.
After dropping the first contest, they avenged their loss, walking away with a 61-51 victory, while holding the T-Birds leading scorer Matt St. Amour to 16 points after he had scored 40 in the previous meeting.
Caleb Prue and Tyler Paxman connected early, putting North Country out on top 10-6 midway through the first. The quarter would end in favor of NCU, with Jason Hatin going on a personal 4-0 run to push the score to 14-11.

UCA Boys and Girls Both Fall in Doubleheader Against Canaan

CANAAN – The UCA Crusaders took to the road Tuesday night to face off against Canaan, but unfortunately both teams came home emptied handed, with the boys losing 66-48, and the girls falling 69-25.
To the boys game first. After trailing by 22 at half, Coach Tony DelaBruere said his team “came out ready to play in the 2nd half;” and that they, “had a certain game plan and they executed it in the 2nd half.”
United Christian had 3 players score in double figures, led by Paul Samaan’s 22, Dale Martell and Jon DelaBruere each chipped in with 12.

Fourth Quarter Shooting Sends BFA Over North Country 52-49

ST.ALBANS–The Falcons' boys basketball team traveled to Franklin County Tuesday night to face BFA St. Albans, and despite a strong outing, fell to the Bobwhites 52-49.
"It was a very exciting game," said coach Bonvechio, "We played some of our best basketball, especially in the second quarter."
After finishing the first quarter trailing by three, North Country came out flying in the second, outscoring the opposition 23-9, and took a 33-21 lead into the break.
In the third quarter it would be miscues and missed chances that would allow the Bobwhites to creep back into the game.

Falcons Ground T-Birds 53-18 in Lopsided Home Opener

NEWPORT–The scoreboard said it all on Monday night when the North Country girls basketball team laid waste to the Missisquoi Valley Union Thunderbirds 53-18.
A game like that, while fun for the players on the winning side, can be a double edged sword for the victorious coach.
"It's nice to get points on the board and it is nice to get a win, especially when we are playing the best in the state every night, but unfortunately it ( a blow out) doesn't prepare us to get ready for what we are going to see, but it is nice to get the win," said coach Brown.

ORLEANS- It was not pretty and it was not the same type of Lady Rangers basketball the Ranger faithful have been used to over the past 5 years, but in the end it was the same result Thursday night when the Lyndon Institute Vikings traveled to Don Harter Gym: An LR Win!

Charger’s Pull Away Late, Defeat Crusaders 31-25

NEWPORT CITY – The United Christian Academy Crusader’s hosted the Craftsbury Academy Charger’s Saturday morning, but it was the Charger’s walking away with the victory 31-25.
