Cota Lifts Falcons in OT
NORTHFIELD– Although it would take a almost the entire fifty minutes of regulation and overtime, the North Country girls came away with the 3-2 win over Northfield on Saturday.
"The girls showed their rust early, but they shook it off and played well the rest of the game," said head coach Claude Paul.
Having not had a game in ten days, and limited practice last week due to exams and weather, it is to be expected that the team might be a little slow out of the gate, but it was the Falcons getting out to the early lead in the first.

Lady Crusaders Show Promise Late in 60-37 Loss

January 12, 2012

NEWPORT–Playing through rebuilding season can be tough road to hoe, and it continues to be so for the UCA Crusader girls, as they lost to Masse Vanier 60-37 Wednesday afternoon.
"We are really struggling out there. We beat our selves up and down the court, and we can't have that many turnovers and expect to be in games," said coach Sarah Roy
Having the game held at the Municipal Building made things a little trickier for the Crusaders, as they had to contend with strange lighting, a smaller court, and some very unfriendly rims to say the least.

"They are the best team we are going to face all year," said coach Tony DeLaBruere, "They are better than Websterville. they have five seniors, two juniors, and they are all big, can jump, and they can all play ball."

Caylin Gallup gave the Lady Rangers their first lead of the contest, when she connected on a long 3 to put LR on top 9-6 at the end of 1.
Drew Neal extended the lead to 9 for the blue and white at the half when she received a nice no-look pass from Gallup and buried it to run the score to 20-11.

Falcon Girls Take Second, Boys Seventh in Stowe

January 9, 2012

STOWE–The North Country nordic teams headed to the Mount Mansfield Resort Nordic Center in Stowe on Friday.
Christina Cotnoir was in attendance and said that, "The weather was mild and the atmosphere was festive! The race went quickly due to the mass starts. It was fun to watch as the skiers started en mass, furiously double-poling to gain a good position on the narrow trail which wound into the woods. The next time the skiers appeared was on the top of a hill. The spectators cheered all the skiers as they whizzed past us down the hill. Many spectacular crashes kept it exciting."

January 8, 2012

"Our overall effort was good, there was some laziness going on in the beginning, but we straightened that out in a hurry," said coach Tony DeLaBruere.
Whether it was due to laziness or not, both teams were having difficulty scoring out of the gate. Paul Saaman put up the first point when he went 1-2 from the line, and Concord came back to take their lone lead of the game with a two from Brody Young.

Falcons Sweep Season Series Against MMU, Win 42-7

January 8, 2012

NEWPORT–If you thought the hurt that the North girls basketball team put on MMU the first time they met was bad, it was nothing compared to the demoralizing 42-7 whopping they dished out on Thursday night.
"We were all stoked, we pretended like it was going to be Rice and we played better defense" said Kelsey O'Donnell on how NC was able to reduce the number of points allowed.
Quite frankly, she is right. They did not just play better defense, they played stifling defense which led to North Country allowing an average 1.75 points per quarter in the win.
