Fourth Quarter Shooting Sends BFA Over North Country 52-49

ST.ALBANS–The Falcons' boys basketball team traveled to Franklin County Tuesday night to face BFA St. Albans, and despite a strong outing, fell to the Bobwhites 52-49.
"It was a very exciting game," said coach Bonvechio, "We played some of our best basketball, especially in the second quarter."
After finishing the first quarter trailing by three, North Country came out flying in the second, outscoring the opposition 23-9, and took a 33-21 lead into the break.
In the third quarter it would be miscues and missed chances that would allow the Bobwhites to creep back into the game.

Falcons Ground T-Birds 53-18 in Lopsided Home Opener

NEWPORT–The scoreboard said it all on Monday night when the North Country girls basketball team laid waste to the Missisquoi Valley Union Thunderbirds 53-18.
A game like that, while fun for the players on the winning side, can be a double edged sword for the victorious coach.
"It's nice to get points on the board and it is nice to get a win, especially when we are playing the best in the state every night, but unfortunately it ( a blow out) doesn't prepare us to get ready for what we are going to see, but it is nice to get the win," said coach Brown.

Marckres’ 21 Paces Chargers Over Crusaders 69-45

NEWPORT – In the second game of the double-header, the UCA and Craftsbury boys faced off against each other on Saturday. For the fans that stuck around to see the second game they were treated to a great contest. The Crusaders entered the game still in search of their first win on the season and Craftsbury entered the contest fresh off beating Chelsea Thursday night. After a stellar first half, the Chargers pulled away with a convincing victory 69-45.

Falcons Surge Late, but Fall to Bobwhites 3-1 in Home Opener

NEWPORT–In the game of hockey sometimes you have to be a little bit lucky. Wednesday night at the Ice Haus, BFA St. Albans goaltender Andre Morin had the luck of the Irish going for him as the North Country Falcons hit two crossbars amidst a flurry of third period pressure en route to a 3-1 loss in their home opener.
"This was a big time game for us," said coach Andrew Roy, "they came out firing hard, but we adapted well and I am happy about that.

Tough Start to the Season for Falcon Girls Hoops, Lose 42-37 to Vikings

LYNDON–It was not the start that North Country girls basketball team had hoped for on Wednesday night as the team fell to Lyndon Institute 42-37.
"They wanted it a lot more than we did and it was visible," said coach Christiane Brown after the loss.
The team came out and took an 8-7 lead after one quarter, but signs were showing early that LI was not going to go away. The Vikings were hot to trot in the second, dropping fifteen point on the Falcons and taking a 21-16 lead into the half.

Falcons Start Season Off With 70-65 Win Over Lyndon Institute

NEWPORT–It has been a long time coming for the North Country boys basketball team. Victories were few and far between last season for the Falcons, and on Tuesday night the boys shed the weight of last year with a 70-65 win in their season opener against Lyndon Institute.
"It was nice to get a win this early in the season," said Coach Brian Bonvechio.
The Falcons used their long range attack along with a twenty-eight point performance from Caleb Prue, and nineteen from Clint Provoncha to topple their foes from down south.

Comeback Thwarted, Ranger’s Hang on to Win Home Opener 53-40

ORLEANS – The Lake Region Rangers kicked off their 2011-2012 campaign Tuesday night, with a match-up against the rival Hazen Wildcats. The Rangers started off strong, building a commanding halftime lead, before finally putting away the Wildcats after a furious comeback.
Before the contest Lake Region held a moment of silence in honor of Kaylanne Matten, who tragically lost her life last week. Her parents Justin and Nichole Matten attended Lake Region.

Veteran Laden Falcons Taking Their Game to the Next Level

NEWPORT–There will be no shortage of veterans for the North Country girls basketball team this season. The ten player team consists of an even split of juniors and seniors, including all of the 2010-2011 starters, and Coach Christiane Brown is ready to work with the older group.
"I'll tell you what is exciting for North Country is that we are veterans. I have an experienced squad coming back and it's like I don't have to teach what our system is. They know it. They have experienced it, and it is just now giving them friendly reminders."
