Falcons Top Vikings 3-2

NEWPORT–Sometimes all a team needs to turn a losing streak around is to come home. That is what the North Country Field hockey did as they became the last fall sports team to play a game in front of the Falcon faithful when they took on Lyndon Institute on Wednesday, exploding for a season high three goals and a 3-2 win over the Vikings.
"It was amazing," said Coach Chantelle Bouchard, "They played phenomenal, they did such a great job even though we were down two players."

Vikings, Rangers Tie at 1

ORLEANS --- A seemingly routine game, turned intense over the final 10 minutes of regulation, as the Lake Region Rangers battled to a 1-1 draw against the Lyndon Institute Vikings Tuesday afternoon.
“We need to play the full game with more intensity,” Coach Brad Urie said after the game.
Over the first 40 minutes both teams played solid soccer. Each side had opportunities to score, but neither team could capitalize and put the go-ahead goal in the back of the net. It looked as if neither team wanted to take control of the game, and stake their claim as the team to beat.

Falcons Comeback to Win 2-1 at St. Jay.

St. JOHNSBURY–The North Country girls soccer team played a strong game against a good sized Hilltopper team and came away with a 2-1 victory, their second win of the season.
"It was a total team effort," said coach Joe Batisita.
In a game dominated early by the Academy, Batista's team had dig deep and find a way to forge through the early barrage of Hilltopper pressure.

Falcon XC Girls Dominate in Season Opener

DERBY– With beautiful conditions at the Primeau Farm holding out long enough to complete all of Tuesday's races, the North Country Falcons took home a first place team and individual finish on the girls side and a second place team finish and second individual place finish in the first and only home meet of their young season.
Senior Captain Steph Watson won the meet in a time of 20:30.  Haley Jo Tetreault was 3rd and Caitlin Smith finished 4th overall.  Erika Fortin (14th) and Jordan Howell (17th) rounded out the scoring for North Country. 

Falcon XC Opens Season at Home on Tuesday

NEWPORT–After a fantastic season last year that saw boys senior captain Josef Bourgeois pick up a second place finish at the state meet, the North Country Cross-Country team will be looking to fill his, as well as some other key positions on the 2011 roster.
"On the girls side we lost Genna Primeau and Martha Petzoltd to graduation and Steph Fontaine decided not to return, and on the boys side we lost Josef and Andy Decelles to graduation, and Brian DeLaBruere is now playing soccer," says 2nd year Head Coach Chris Schaffer.

Falcons Win 2-1 on Puckett's Last Minute Goal

NEWPORT– Coming off back to back shut-out losses in the first two games of the season, the North Country boys soccer team finally ended their scoreless streak on Saturday as they won a thrilling contest 2-1 off the foot of Josh Puckett.
"We played a solid 80 minutes of soccer," said Coach James McKenny, "We talked about it before the game, if we do that we are going to be in every game."

Falcons Decimate Raiders 73-6

NEWPORT-You have to wonder how much more productive this offensive machine for the North Country Falcons can be. The 2-0 Falcons ran for 365 yards on the ground and pounded visiting U-32 on both sides of the ball, ransacking their East Montpelier opponents 73-6.
Jason Hatin was the big man in the offense scoring four touchdowns on the ground from 2, 3, 5 and 37 yards out. He added an 84 yard kickoff return for good measure as NCU dominated. Quarterback Tre Sanville scored twice and threw a touchdown pass as well.

NCUHS Cheer Program Hopes to Make a Return

NEWPORT–Girls from NCUHS held a car wash on Sunday to help raise funds for the reinstatement of the Falcon Cheer leading program.
Headed by Danielle Gage from Awesome Dance Studio, the team hopes to be up and running as soon as possible.
They will be meeting with NCU AD Mike Kiser today to go over the logistics of the start up process.
Uniforms run about $130.00 per person for everything, and the girls were able to raise $225.00 on Sunday.
With the current number of athletes interested the total cost would be roughly $1,300.00 to dress a squad for the 2011-2012 school year.

MMU Tops NCU Girls 2-0

JERICHO– A physical but clean contest went in favor of the Cougars of Mount Mansfield on Friday, as they were able to avoid an early onslaught and defeat the Falcons in girls soccer action on Friday.
“We had about four real quality chances early,” said Coach Alexander, “We hit the cross bar, and were not able to score on the others.”
The senior laden Cougars bounced back from the striking Falcons, and with two and a half minutes to go in the half they were able to to beat Lindsay Geoffrey off of a scramble in front of the NCU net.

Rockets Up End Chargers

CRAFTSBURY–The Craftsbury Academy Lady Chargers hosted the Rochester Rockets on Saturday afternoon. It was the Chargers first game of the season and they were looking to show off the tools they had worked on during the preseason.
The Lady Chargers got on the board early as Deidre Martin took the pass from Meghan Pennock, and made it 1-0 in favor CA. The lead would be short lived as Rochester would tie the game with just over 13 minutes remaining in the 1st half. The teams would enter the half with the scored tied 1-1.
