EAST MONTPELIER– The North Country boys’ and girls’ XC teams traveled to U-32 for a chilly meet on a brisk Wednesday afternoon.

Bullets Shoot Down Rangers, 3-0

October 12, 2011

ORLEANS–The undefeated BFA-Fairfax Bullets are a good soccer team.
Very Good.
So it was no surprise that when they came in to Orleans to face Lake Region, it would be an uphill battle for the Rangers, and it was, as they fell 3-0 to the Bullets yesterday afternoon.
"I thought it was a much better showing than we had Tuesday," said Coach Evans after the game, "For the most part we played a decent first half, but I told them at halftime that we can't kick the ball out cause they are going to possess the ball more than us, and they did. They are a good ball club."

Lady Rangers Blank Spratans 2-0

October 12, 2011

WINOOSKI – The Lady Rangers traveled south Tuesday afternoon, to face off against the Winooski Spartans, and they came away with a 2-0 victory. The Spartans have played Lake Region tough as of late, having lost 3-1 last Monday. Tyrah Urie netted both goals for the Blue and White; the second coming with 3 minutes to go in the game, to clinch it for Lake Region. With her two goals on Thursday, Urie’s season total is up to 14. Jordan Cowles once again started in net and she earned her first career shutout, saving both shots she faced during the game.

Falcons Down Hilltoppers, Make it Four Shut-outs in a Row

October 12, 2011

NEWPORT–Cara Worth took a feed from Anna Bingham seven minutes and thirty-seven seconds into the second half of Tuesday's North Country/St Johnsbury game and scored the lone goal of the contest to give the Falcons their fourth straight shut-out win 1-0.
"I'm very proud of them," said Coach Jose Batista of his defense's efforts these last few games, "I think we are allowing our goalie to see the balls, which is great for us defensively."

UCA Boys Continue to Grow Through Pain, Lose 1-0 to Richford

October 11, 2011

RICHFORD–UCA hit the road to take on Richford on Monday, and despite the 1-0 loss, Coach DeLaBruere was thrilled with her teams’ efforts.
“We played an unbelievable game! 7 minutes into the 1st half, we lost center striker Ji Kim for the remainder of the game when he collided with 2 Richford players and hyperextended his knee. Loosing Ji on the field was a big loss for us, but my boys were up for the challenge!”

On Friday, September 30th, the NCUHS Girls Varsity Soccer team ran a training session for the Junior High program in Derby. The session started with an overview of the high school program, expectations for the pre-season, and the fall try-out procedure explained by Varsity coaches Peter Alexander and Joe Batista. Both coaches Steve Farrow (7th grade) and Amanda Blaisdell (8thgrade) had their players participate in the dynamic stretch routine that mimics the soccer warm-up at UVM.

ORLEANS–"My hats of to Enosburg, and that's all I'm going to say."
Those are the only words spoken to me by Coach Tom Evans after Lake Region's 2-0 loss to Enosburg on Monday night.
Judging by his words and tone, coach, you can imagine how Evans felt about his team's performance on the pitch.
Things started out on the wrong foot for LR personnel wise as sophomore goaltender Alex Beauregard started the game on the bench due to what sources cited as a disciplinary matter.

NCUHS Falcon Fortitude Prevails, 20-18

October 9, 2011

BELLOW FALLS–It’s nice to be able to roll along unimpeded during your regular season. The North Country Falcons have for the most part enjoyed that. Most coaches will also tell you learn more from a loss or a stern test than you do winning.
That was the case Saturday as the Falcons got themselves out of a contest that they very well could have loss. NCU came up big with a late game defensive stand and a big play offense as they got by a good Bellows Falls Terrier team 20-18.
