Sports Memorabilia Collectors Gather at Municipal Building

December 6, 2011

NEWPORT–Sports memorabilia enthusiasts gathered at the Municipal Building in Newport on Saturday to buy, sell, trade, and admire a wide variety of sports collectables.
Put on by long time collector Gary Thomas, the event featured collections from Thomas as well as a host of other local collectors.
"We've tried the show here a couple of times, and hoped to get people who have cards to bring them in and try to sell them or just display them," says Thomas, "But I have been in the hobby for at least twenty-five years."

Lake Region Rangers Continue to Rebuild

December 5, 2011

As James Ingalls enters the 2012 campaign, his 9th at the helm of the Rangers, he will look to rebound from a tough 2011, in which his team went 9-13, including a 2nd-round playoff exit at the hands of Leland and Gray High School. This was after the team won an impressive 70 games combined in the previous 3 seasons.
In order to turn around the program, Coach Ingalls will need to rely on his group of seniors, to provide leadership both on and off the court. His seniors include: Caleb Royer, Tony Stuart, Seth Lawson, James Margola, and Darik Messier.

Lady Rangers Ready for the Challenges of 2011-2012

December 4, 2011

ORLEANS–Coming off a season that took them to the Division Two State Finals, the Lake Region Lady Rangers basketball team will have their work cut out for them if they wish to get back to Barre in 2012.
Head Coach Mark Tinker is realistic about what he lost from last season, but that means in no way he is not confident about his team this year.
"It is going to be different. We graduated some seniors that have been pretty instrumental in the program since they were freshman and sophomores and on up through.

Second Half Scoring Leads South Over North in 2011 All-Star Senior Bowl

November 20, 2011

MIDDLEBURY–An outpouring of offense in the second half propelled the South over the North 35-8 in the 11th Annual North-South All-Star Football Game.
While it was not the way Coach Davis would have liked to see his coaching career end, he definitely could be proud of the effort that his players brought to the 2011 Senior Bowl on Saturday.
"It was a great experience. These games are what they are; an exhibition to get the kids out there for scouts to see. But most importantly it is about having fun and the kids did."

Record Six Falcons Head to Middlebury for North/South

November 17, 2011

NEWPORT–Retiring Falcon Head Coach Bob Davis will take six of his players with him as he heads down to Middlebury this weekend for his final coaching assignment, guiding the Northern squad in the Annual North/South Game.
This will be Davis’ third time coaching at the game (2001, 2005, 2001), the second as a head coach.
“It is a totally different thing. The idea is to celebrate football, sportsmanship and to showcase these kids for the colleges to look at,” said the coach earlier this month.

It's Official; Kylie’s A Catamount

November 10, 2011

ORLEANS-With the official college signing session in full swing, one of Lake Region’s best hoopsters, senior Kylie Atwood, signed on the dotted line locking in her post high school hoop career. Atwood agreed to sign with the University of Vermont Catamounts starting in the fall of 2012. That insures Atwood playing at the Division One level at the state’s biggest and only DI sports Institution.

Watson Ready New England’s

November 9, 2011

NEWPORT–While most people don't get a chance to see it, North Country Cross-Country coach Chris Shaffer is doing good things with the program.
For the second time in his two years as head coach, the Falcons will once again be represented at this weekends' New England Cross Country Championship in Rhode Island, but Shaffer knows that he is just a part of the success that the athletes have had.
"There is a point where all my talking and all my running next to them can only go so far, because once race day comes it's how determined they are and what abilities they bring."

BullDogs Hold off Falcon Comeback 37-26

November 6, 2011

NEWPORT-The North Country Falcons came back from a 37-6 deficit by dominating the second half of Friday night’s Division two playoff game. However, that early 31 point margin was too much to come back from as the Falcons were ousted from the semi final round by the score of 37-26, one game short of a championship game bid.
North Country had rolled into the contest with a 9-0 record and an impressive decision over these same Bulldogs just two weeks ago. B and B was ready this time, and they immediately got on the scoreboard.

Watson Takes 11th Overall to Pace North Country XC

November 1, 2011

Staff Reports
It was an exciting and exhausting day at the races last Saturday for the North Country Cross Country team. Signs of snow were found out on the course with another 7” predicted to arrive later in the afternoon and temperatures never climbed out of the mid-40s. The footing was much better than earlier in the month on this course, but after 8 races went through the course, it was pretty churned up in the lower loop.
