BARTON - On August 10, 1922 a child was born on Lake Street in Barton. Maurice LaClair, son of Alfred and Mabel LaClair, found out early in life how to support a family. When Maurice was 14 years old his father came home one day after working in a cold and wet spring day. He went to bed and never got up. Alfred died from pneumonia.
Maurice went to elementary school in South Barton. The one-room schoolhouse is located on Route 5 close to the Sutton town line. Later he went to Barton Academy but didn’t like it.
