NEWPORT CITY – The city council wants more information before agreeing to jump on board with AARP to designate Newport City as an "age friendly city."
Trish Sears, executive director of the Newport City Renaissance Corporation (NCRC), pitched the idea to the council Monday evening. She said that AARP Vermont asked if the city wants to be included with a World Health Organization (WHO) and Vermont State Project that would enable Newport City to be age friendly. A community advisory council would work with NCRC on community issues like access and economic opportunities. The council would have to be open to having the designation, Sears said.
