Flint–– Alan Slater, 89, long time resident of Newport, VT, died peacefully on June 18, 2011 surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. There will be a celebration of his life at the United Church of Newport, Third Street on June 22 at 11 a.m. officiated by the Reverend Steven Jungkeit. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Randolph, VT at the Veteran’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Haskell Opera House, PO Box 337, Derby Line, VT 05830 or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Church Street Station, PO Box 780, New York, NY 10008-0780.
