Up and Down Weekend for North Country Basketball

February 12, 2012

BARRE–North Country's girls basketball team gave Spaulding all they could handle on Friday before finally succumbing to the Tide 50-41 in overtime.
It was a very evenly matched game, but the difference came down to free throws for the Falcons.
The team was an overall 7/15 from the line, including a dismal 3/8 in the fourth quarter. Making any one of those eight freebies could have keyed a win, and coach Christiane Brown knows it.
"We had plenty of chances to seal the win, but we we did not finish and that is something we must tighten up."
Emma Joslin, who was not firing on all cylinders due to illness, personally was 2/6 in the fourth, shooting an uncharacteristically low thirty-three percent.
She would have nine points in the game, as did Michaela Stanley.
Noelle Pinard shined in the loss, having what Brown called "a complete all-around game."
The tall forward had a double-double, going for eleven points and twelve rebounds.
"She played great. She saw the lanes well and was very composed on the floor."
The 4-10 Falcons continue their road swing this week, with a stop in South Burlington to face Rice tomorrow next on the trip.
Ball tips at 6:30.

The North Country boys basketball team went 1-1 in late week play. Thursday they picked up a huge 43-42 win over Burlington on the back of Caleb Prue's late game heroics.
Prue, in thrilling fashion, was able to score five points in the final seconds to give the Falcons their fifth win of the year.
On Friday, Colchester dealt the boys their their tenth loss of the year by the score of 75-60. Prue again led the way, scoring eighteen while Jason Hatin, back from illness, had fifteen.
The boys return home tonight to face Essex at 6:30.
