ISLAND POND - Students and teachers arriving at school in Brighton Friday morning were greeted with a nasty surprise. Around 2 a.m., someone vandalized the town’s only soccer field by spinning vehicle tires deep into the wet ground. This caused many ruts and unsafe playing conditions.
Brighton soccer team Coach Bill Burns said a home game scheduled for today against Canaan has been postponed, however a tournament scheduled for Saturday at the field is still on. He is hopeful the damage can be repaired by then.
"This vandalism hurts the community emotionally and financially," he said Saturday, October 1st.
Currently the Brighton Bearcats Co-ed Soccer Team is undefeated.
Anyone with any information on the incident is urged to contact Cpl. Paul Mosher at the Vermont State Police in Derby at 334-8881.
