DOES NCU NEED A COP ON THE BEAT?

NEWPORT - A request by the human resources committee to investigate adding a school resource officer sparked a lively debate at last night's North Country Union High School Board meeting. The school budget to be considered at town meeting in March does not include funding for the position.
Principal Bill Rivard advised the board that, according to the federal model, the police officer has certain duties as part of the job definition, which is: “a career law enforcement officer, with sworn authority, deployed in community oriented policing, and assigned by the employing police department or agency to work in collaboration with schools....”
