NEWPORT–The 2013 North Country Cross Country team is looking get out of the gates a little earlier than they have in past seasons.
Traditionally the Falcons have not been very aggressive in the early going, using a more gradual, progressional style of seasonal maturation.
This season, head Coach Chris Shaffer will have his team at the Essex Invitational this weekend, and he believes that being at the event will help his team in the long run.
Said the coach, "Usually Woods Trail in the beginning of October is a good bench mark to see how we stack up against the competition, especially since it is run on the same course that the state meet is run on.
"With Essex, the same caliber of runners are showing up, and all though it is tough to get out of the gates early with a big meet like this, it also gives us another month of training to get us an understanding of where we stack up against the top teams."
