BARRE–In their final two regular season matches of the season, North Country's boys tennis team blanked Spaulding 7-0 in back-to-back matches to close out the season with a 9-1-1 record, 4th overall in Division I.
In the first match the Falcons went with their traditional line-up and won with a combined score of 56-7.
In the second match they juggled their line-up and still won easily with a 56-13 total score.
"Dave was his usual workman-like self, Thomas' serve was clicking and his was strong at the net, and Maoz simply overwhelmed his opponent," said coach Gary Atchinson.
They day before they wrapped up their regular season, North Country sent Travers Parsons-Grayson and the doubles team of Steve Raboin and Zach Tweed to compete in Vermont's Individual State Tournament.
Travers opened up against Stowe's number five player, and won 6-4, 6-3.
Up next TPG ran into a buzzsaw in the form of Daniel Ro from Essex. Ro defeat Travers 6-0, 6-0, eventually making it all the way to the finals before falling to his brother David.
Said Atchinson, "Was Travers disappointed? No. He was inspired to go out and get better."
For Raboin and Tweed they too took their first match, besting a pair from Fair Haven 6-1, 6-1.
In their second match against a South Burlington duo, they won the opening set 7-5, but fell behind and dropped the second. In the third, they got as close as 5-4, but the Rebels held on, winning 6-4, and advancing to the next round.
Now as the state's team tournament gets underway, the fourth seeded Falcons will host the thirteenth ranked CVU Redhawks this Wednesday at 3:00.
