Falcons Comeback to Win 2-1 at St. Jay.

September 14, 2011

St. JOHNSBURY–The North Country girls soccer team played a strong game against a good sized Hilltopper team and came away with a 2-1 victory, their second win of the season.
"It was a total team effort," said coach Joe Batisita.
In a game dominated early by the Academy, Batista's team had dig deep and find a way to forge through the early barrage of Hilltopper pressure.
They did, and came close to opening the scoring when Anna Bingham rung a shot off of the post, but it would be St. Jay winning the race to the scoreboard when two minutes after the Bingham chance, Nellie McQueeny picked up a rebound and put it in the back of the Falcon net.
"There was a breakdown in the first half," admitted Batista.
With the Falcon pride surging through the veins of his players, Batista's crew tied the game before the half was through as Sophia Congdon got the ball to Katie Meunier, who was in action after leaving the previous game with an injury, and Meunier beat Academy keeper Victoria Hutchinson.
The second half saw the Falcons come out flying, and it was a little over ten minutes into the second frame when Shelby Maniatty found Noelle Pinard for the game winning score.
After the goal North Country was able to hold off the Hilltoppers to earn the two to one win.
"A lot of the girls had a good a game, and when that happens it makes winning a lot easier," said Batista.
The Falcons will try to keep their winning ways when the face MMU in a rematch from last weeks' 2-0 loss to the Cougars. Game time is 4:30.
