Falcons Fall in Season Opener

September 7, 2011

SOUTH BURLINGTON– Despite a strong effort from rookie goaltender Danielle Gabucci, the Falcons field hockey team dropped their first contest of the season by the score of two to nothing to the Rice Green Knights.
"We played awesome, very defensively," said Coach Chantelle Bouchard, "Rice is a very tough team."
After a Megan Simpson goal was disallowed in the first half due to contact with a foot, Rice's Erika Gonyaw would score the official opening goal of the game on a penalty corner after time had expired in the first half.
Jenna Campbell would add an insurance marker in the second half to seal the deal for the Green Knights.
Lindsay Cotnoir also played well for North Country in the team's first effort of the season, says Bouchard, "She was on fire and could not be stopped."
The Falcons will try to get their record back to .500 this today when the take on the Solons in Montpelier at 4:00.
