Rutland Wins 5-3
RUTLAND–The Falcon hockey girls lost their second in a row Wednesday afternoon, falling to Rutland 5-3 in game one of the North Country-Rutland double-header.
“It wasn't a bad game," said coach Paul, "We did some different things with our breakout that worked and our power-play looked the best it has all year."
Rutland had the upper hand all game, starting in the first where they were able to get two past goalie Tara Langmaid.
North Country answered with a goal from Whitney Bernier, with Adrianna Fournier and Emilie Paul drawing the assists, and it was two to one after one.
Each team scored a pair in the second, with Meghan Campbell and Emilie Paul providing the offense for the visiting squad.
Rutland added some insurance in the third, bringing the sore to 5-3, and that is where it stayed, as the Falcons record now stands at 11-6.
Langmaid had 21 saves in the game for North Country.
It will be another weekend of double-header hockey as the Falcons travel to Harwood on Saturday to take on the Highlander at 5:00, followed by the boys team at 7:00.
One quick note, North Country was slated to face Montpelier on Monday, but the Solons were forced to forfeit due to goaltending issues.
However, they will still be at the Ice Haus for the boys game to do their annual community service event.
The team encourages all fans to bring a canned good, or to make a donation to help feed hungry families in the area.
Raiders Hold on 6-5
RUTLAND– The NCU boys hockey team almost completed the comeback win, but Rutland's Tyler Slusarczyk's fourth goal with thirty-six seconds left in the third gave the Red Raiders the 6-5 win.
After getting down by five goals though the first twenty-six minutes of play, North Country scored five straight to knot the game at 5-5.
Ryan Paul and Nate Marsh each had a pair, while Logan Fortier had the other.
Ross DeLaBruere had a play-maker while Nate Stewart had two assists.
The loss puts the Falcons at 6-11 on the season, and as stated above, they will be in action on Saturday night against Harwood at 7:00.
If you are unable to make the trip down to Waterbury, both games will be broadcasted on 1490 WIKE for your listening pleasure.
St. Tops NCU 65-28
ST. JOHNSBURY–The Falcons boys basketball team had a rough go of it Wednesday night, losing to St. Johnsbury 65-28.
There will be no rest for the weary, as North Country goes back out on the road tonight to face South Burlington. Game time is 6:30.
