NEWPORT– After a questionable season opening match against the U-32 Raiders that was tainted by suspect pairings by U-32, the North Country girls tennis team went into their rematch with the Raiders looking for redemption and found it, defeating the visitors from Montpelier 5-2.
One of the two losses for the Falcons came in the number one singles match where Martha Petzoldt battled Erin Connor for two hours before finally succumbing to defeat 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
"Martha made quite a few errors out there," said Head Coach Marie George, "but she hasn't played a lot. This was the first real test she has had this season."
The other defeat came at the hands of Margaret Armstrong and Alli Belliveau as they bested NCU's number one doubles team of Michaela Stanley and Annie Arcoleo 6-0, 6-0.
Deanna Brandstetter, Kelsey O'Donnell, Rhiannon Rosamillia, and Alana Perry had little trouble with their opponents in singles competition, defeating them by a combined forty-eight sets to eight.
Rosie Wheeler and Carlie Diette also breezed through their match, winning 6-0,6-0.
It will be a busy rest of the week for the Falcons as they must face St.J, Harwood, and Lake Region, playing four matches in five days.
