Falcons Pick up Wins on the Road

September 19, 2013

FILED HOCKEY
No. Country 1, Milton 0
MILTON Mara Spates' goal in the second half was the difference as the Falcons defeated the Yellow Jackets to improve to 2-1 this season.
"It was a beautiful game," said NCU coach Chantelle Bouchard. "The play was very even, and fortunately we came out on top."
In addition to scoring the Falcons' goal, Spates was very instrumental in the team's overall play, contributing anything that was needed to help move North Country down the field.
Said Bouchard, "She had a great game. She was everywhere we wanted her to be, and her goal was absolutely awesome."
Myrriah Gonyaw had 10 saves to earn the shut-out, while North Country put a total of 12 shots on the Milton netminder.
The Falcons will finally make their home debut on Friday when they host Montpelier at 4:30.
BOYS SOCCER
No. Country 3, Lyndon 0
LYNDON CENTER-Wednesday's contest featured the return of Ruffie Palin and Dana Marsh to the North Country line-up, and the pair made an immediate impact, each scoring a goal in the first half in the Falcons' win over Lyndon Institute.
"It makes all the difference in the world having Ruffie and Dana back," said North Country coach James McKenny. "We played a good brand of soccer on Wednesday, although we are still looking for that full eighty minute effort."
Palin got the scoring started for North Country when he put one home ten minutes into the contest.
Marsh's goal, which came ten minutes after Ruffie's, was the prettiest of the three tally's the Falcons would score.
It all started in goal, with NCU keeper Ryan Paul feeding the ball to Palin. Palin then got it up to Kaeden Beswick, who one touched it to Marsh.
Marsh finished the job, sending the ball into the cage for Falcon goal number two.
Connor St. Onge capped off the scoring ten minutes later.
In the second half, North Country slowed up a little, but were still able to preserve the win and the shut-out.
Paul had 8 saves in the win, and the Falcons move to 2-2 on the year.
Next up is a rematch against BFA St. Albans on Saturday.
Game time is 10 AM.
