Falcons Roll over Tide 4-1

September 15, 2011

BARRE–With several of the Falcons main stays getting significant time off on Wednesday, it was the bench of the Falcons was the difference in the teams 4-1 win over Spaulding.
"Our bench was the difference maker," said Coach James McKenny, "I feel really comfortable with them out there. Clint (Provencha) especially provided a spark off the bench. He plays with a lot of heart and really raises the bar out there."
Josh Puckett was the big offensive force in the game, tallying a goal and two assists in the win, but it was a play by the youngster Provencha that got the scoring started.
With some nice foot work opening up a lane, the sophomore was able to find junior Chris Bronson whose shot hit off the post and went in for a 1-0 NC lead midway through the first half.
In the second half it became Puckett time.
He first hit Brian DeLaBruere with a pass and DeLabruere dribbled a shot into the net. He then blasted a goal of his own on a low shot from 20 yards out. Finally, on a set play, he crossed the ball into the 18 where a waiting Nick Kincaid got a head on the ball for the fourth and final goal for the Falcons on the afternoon.
Spaulding would add a meaningless goal late in the game to break up the shutout for Logan Fortier, but McKenny to a big picture look at the game saying, "It would have been nice for Logan, but overall we played well. We won 50/50 balls, utilized space, made good passes, but most importantly we capitalized on our scoring chances, and that was a difference maker."
They are going to need be on top of those chances today when Essex comes rolling into town. The Hornets have shut out all comers so far this season, and the red hot Falcons must bring their A plus game to Falcon field when the game gets rolling at 4:30.
