NEWPORT–Lake Region played host to North Country at the Prouty Beach tennis courts on Wednesday, but the Falcons still felt that home town advantage and defeated the Lady Rangers 7-0.
"We needed this win. We have played some very difficult matches lately, especially ones against Montpelier and Middlebury," said North Country coach Marie George. "The 3-4 loss to Mount Mansfield on Monday really prepared the team for this win."
Unfortunately for Lake Region it was a very one sided affair as the Falcons allowed only two sets to go the Rangers’ way.
In singles action, Kelsey O'Donnell avenged an earlier loss to Katie Leblanc, winning the number one singles match 6-1, 6-4.
Rhiannon Rosamillia overpowered Desirae Colorado, shutting her out in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
India Bluett handed Miranda Beaudry a 6-1, 6-4 loss in the number three slot while Carlie Diette rolled past Cassie Desmarais 6-1, 6-1 at number four.
Said George of Diette's performance, "Carlie played a flawless game. She did a nice job directing the ball to her opponents weak side."
The Rangers' most competitive singles match came from the number five player Brianna Fontain, who was facing Annie Arcoleo.
After losing the first set 6-4, she fought back in a very competitive second, winning 7-5.
But in the end it was Arcoleo getting the win in the tiebreaker.
Sonya Hinton and Moriah Lafoe had a nice bounce back win, besting Jasmin Carpantier and Cassidy Weiss 6-1, 6-0.
After winning their first match together on Monday, Michaela Stanley and Duyen Dao had an interesting bout with Shaylyn Bronson and Aracali Derbyshire.
The first set went to Bronson and Derbyshire 7-5, but then Stanley and Dao blew past the LR pair 6-0 in the second.
"They had a rough start, but they fought back," said George.
In the tiebreaker things got close once again as it took extra points for the Falcons to win the match 12-10.
North Country (2-5) will be back in action on Monday, hosting U-32 while 0-5 Lake Region's next match will be on Wednesday against Spaulding at the Derby tennis courts.
