NEWPORT–Anna Bingham led all scorers with fifteen points and the North Country defense held the Cougars to single digits in all four quarters, as the Falcons rolled over Mount Mansfield 54-23.
"I think we played really well together today," said senior Michaela Stanley. "We made a lot of passes on offense and on defense our pressure was intense."
It was evident form the tip-off that North Country was going to have an easy time of it.
Bingham opened the scoring, followed by four points from Desiree Coffin and two form Britni Jewer before the Cougars' Rebecca Rapacz got MMU on the board.
Michael Stanley answered, putting in two of her six points on the evening.
"I am really proud of Michaela today," said coach Christiane Brown after the game. "That is the Michaela I know and she led us today with seven rebounds, six of which were offensive."
Said Stanley, "I thought I played pretty well today. I boxed and got a lot of points from underneath."
After one quarter, the Falcons were firmly in control, 15-7.
The girls put up another 15 in the second quarter while holding the Cougars to just six points.
Bingham and Coffin each had five points, Stanley and Mykayla Tanguay two, and Jewer one.
In the third, Jewer's four points led all North Country scorers.
Sophomore Morgan Greene was next in line with three points, while Tanguay and Ashley Robishaw-Morin each had two.
"I think it is exciting when I can get girls 'in game' experience and see some different combinations, see who works well with one another and changing up their positions," said Brown.
The Falcons closed out the game with an eleven point fourth.
Bingham dropped in her final five points of the game before taking a rest on the bench.
Greene, Stanley and Katelyn Bowen each put up a deuce.
The win moves the girls record to 2-0, while the Cougars drop to 0-4.
Next up for the Falcons is the holiday break, but they return to action on the 29th at Lyndon at 2:30.
