Farewell to a Hero

NEWPORT, VT - Retired Sgt. Doug James, a 30-year veteran of the Vermont State Police and a founding member and the most recent fire chief of the Jay Volunteer Fire Department, was laid to rest Tuesday, escorted by state troopers and members of the fire department.
Two fire trucks extended their ladders to display a huge flag over the entrance to the Curtis-Britch-Converse Rushford Funeral Home where funeral services were conducted.
James also served on the Vermont State Police Bomb Squad and as a member of the Jay Peak Ski Patrol.
