BARTON - A group of area veterans visited St. Paul’s School in Barton last week to show appreciation to a group of students who sent them cards in the days leading up to Veterans’ Day.
Jennifer Wilson’s class sent 100 cards to about 50 local veterans. In response, Wilson’s father John Wilson, who spent much of his life in the military including a tour in Vietnam, and a handful of other veterans went to the school to personally thank the students for their thoughtfulness, answer their questions, give them American flags, and give them gift certificates to McDonald’s.
Many of the notes the students wrote included handmade cards with tanks, airplanes, boats, and eagles.
‘It really chokes you up, because a lot of these people never really received a real thank you,” said John Wilson.
