ORLEANS–"My hats of to Enosburg, and that's all I'm going to say."
Those are the only words spoken to me by Coach Tom Evans after Lake Region's 2-0 loss to Enosburg on Monday night.
Judging by his words and tone, coach, you can imagine how Evans felt about his team's performance on the pitch.
Things started out on the wrong foot for LR personnel wise as sophomore goaltender Alex Beauregard started the game on the bench due to what sources cited as a disciplinary matter.
Beauregard entered the contest ten minutes into the first half, relieving the Rangers' J/V keeper of his duties.
Already in hot water, the goalies' decision to wear an article of jewelry earned him a trip back to the bench after a yellow card was issued.
Carl Oberg came in for three minutes and was not tested before Alex once again returned to the net.
As for the rest of the game, Enosburg took a 1-0 lead with 9:13 left to play in the half. Wyatt Larose grabbed a loose ball off of a throw in and put the Hornets ahead.
"I thought we played pretty good," said Hornet coach Randy Swainbank," they are a good team and they beat us last time. We did everything but score the goal in the last game, and today it was good to get that first one."
Turns out that is all they would need, but with just over a minute left to play in the half Gabino Hernandez added an insurance goal, closing out the scoring in the game with still one full half to play.
In the second half, the Rangers would cluster together a few good scoring chances. The first was a grouping of two corner kicks and a direct, the second chance came off of a pair of corners, but the result was the same each time; nothing hard at the net.
Hornets' goalie Cody Couture was not really challenged in the contest, and had a fairly easy road to the shut-out.
Lake Region, who had been visually unimpressed with the officiating, was dealt their second card of the game with twelve minutes on the clock, this one to Carl Oberg for un-sportsmanlike conduct.
The fans were on the officials case all game long, and calls of “What game are you watching?” could clearly be heard all over the field
Two minutes later Beauregard would get steamrolled with no card issued, and after the game was seen getting checked out for possible concussion-like symptoms.
Lake Region does not have much time to turn things around as undefeated BFA-Fairfax comes in on Wednesday to face the 4-5 Rangers, game time is 4:00.
