DERBY – Voters could see some big changes on the political scene this year.
Republican Rep. Bob Lewis (Orleans-1) of Derby confirmed yesterday that he has filed a petition to run for state senate following on the heels of Sen. Vince Illuzzi's recent statement that he is collecting signatures to run for state auditor.
Lewis declined to comment any further until he issues a press release next week.
Gov. James Douglas appointed Lewis when Loren Shaw stepped down in 2008.
Current State Senator Vince Illuzzi plans to file his nominating petitions for auditor tomorrow and make a formal announcement next week.
Former Rep. John Rodgers of Glover, running as a Democrat, is also interested in Illuzzi's seat. Rodgers lost his Vermont House seat in the 2010 election to Sam Young of Glover.
According to the Derby Town Clerk’s Office, Loren Shaw filed a petition to run for Lewis' Vermont House seat as a Republican, as did incumbent Lynn Batchelor, also a Republican.
