Irasburg Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash

September 9, 2012

IRASBURG, VT - Scott Bowen, 34, of Irasburg, lost his life Friday in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Tree River Campground and VT RT 58 in Irasburg.
According to the Vermont State Police, Bowen was operating a Suzuki Motorcycle sometime before 6 AM, headed east towards Irasburg. At the same time, Randy Machia, 49, of Eden, was operating a 2011 Ford F350 truck and was exiting the campground.
Because of the heavy fog, Machia apparently did not see Bowen and started to pull into the road. Bowen, who may have been attempting to swerve or stop, lost control of his motorcycle and hit the truck.
Bowen was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Orleans Ambulance Unit had been sent to the scene and the Irasburg Fire Department assisted with traffic control.
There have been 58 traffic fatalities in Vermont during 2012.
