HARDWICK – The Lady Rangers traveled to Hazen Union, Saturday morning, to face-off against the Lady Wildcats, in a wet and sloppy soccer match. Lake Region got down early as Hazen would score just over 1 minute into the contest. Tyrah Urie would knot the game at 1-1 with a successful Penalty Kick at the 18 minute mark, but it would be short-lived as Hazen would go on to add a 2nd goal with 11 minutes remaining in the half to take a 2-1 lead. With 9 minutes left to play in the first, LR goalie Brooke Breault was viciously hit by a Hazen player, causing her to roll her ankle and be pulled from the game. Jordan Cowles was removed from the JV game and thrust into action on the Varisty field.
Hazen would tally once more and take a 3-1 lead into half-time. The Wildcats added a 4th goal to their total with 14 minutes to go in regulation.
A trip on the ensuing kickoff at the 20 yard line would result in a second goal from Tyrah Urie, as she converted on the indirect kick. The Blue and White would battle hard, but the could not overcome the deficit and the recent injuries.
Hazen went on to win the game 4-2. After the game, Coach Urie had a lot to say about the game, “it was a tough one to lose. Our inexperience showed out their today, but we are getting there. Hopefully, we can learn from this loss, just like we did after our last one, and get back on a winning streak.”
Coach Urie also gave an injury update. “Brooke Breault, sprained her ankle and should be back Monday. Callie [Cashin] should play in the next game, Desirae [Colorado], I am unsure of her timetable, and Allie Hall, is waiting medical clearance.”
With the loss the Lady Rangers drop to 4-2-1 on the season, and will look to get back to their winning ways when the Spartans of Winooski travel north to Ranger Field, on Monday, October 3rd. Game time is set for 4:00.
