Lake Region Golf Places 2nd in Opening Meet

April 29, 2012

MORRISVILLE – The Lake Region Rangers took to the course for their first meet of the season at the Copley Country Club on Thursday afternoon. Matt Morin, last year’s Division 3 State Medalist, looks for another strong run in his senior campaign.
The opening meet of the season didn’t fare well for the Rangers however. Morin shot a 4 over 39 to pace the squad. Carl Oberg shot a 50, while Connor Gaboriault and Holden Poirier each placed with scores of 56.
Peoples Academy took overall honors while shooting an impressive 158. Lake region finished 2nd with a 201 and Hazen Union rounded out the field with a 219.
Coach Sylvain Gagnon was pleased with the showing, but knows his team needs to get better. “We need to be able to shoot in the 170s as a team. Peoples was lights out today. You don’t see four players each shooting in the low 40s in D 1 let alone in D3.”
He added that, “Poirier really impressed in his first meet as a freshman.”
Senior Devin Morley looks to get back on the course soon. He is currently sidelined with a hand injury, suffered last week.
Lake Region will return to action on Wednesday when the face off against U-32 at the Country Club of Vermont in Barre.
