Legislature Discussing An Animal Cruelty Bill

Animals are given away, abandoned and abused. The cost to non-profit organizations can lead to bankruptcy. Princess was given away to an agency in Colebrook, New Hampshire and placed for adoption.

MONTPELIER - An animal cruelty bill which highlights a revised civil forfeiture clause, is now being reviewed by the House Judiciary Committee. The bill passed the Senate with several provisions, which also include a program between the Department of Corrections and animal shelters.
“We’re defining what animals are covered,” said Representative Vickie Strong of Albany. “If we are going to define animal cruelty we also want to determine if there’s a difference between farm animals and pets.
