ISLAND POND, VT - It’s that time of year again. Moose madness has struck and hunters lucky enough to have won the lottery are out to bag the biggest beast they can. The largest moose harvested so far this year weighed in at 834 pounds. The largest ever taken was slightly over 1,000 pounds. The largest cow taken so far was 619 pounds. Pete Emerson of the Department of Fish & Wildlife said the state has finally gotten the moose population where it should be. The numbers are down as a result, with fewer permits issued at 385.
