NEK Blue Devils Take Vermont Sting IceBreaker Tournament
BARRE/MONTPELIER–The 7/8 grade NEK Blue Devils took part in the 5th annual Vermont Sting IceBreaker this past weekend, and came home with a perfect 4-0 record, claiming the 8th grade division title.In the opening game, the Blue Devils battled back against the Littleton Crusaders to force overtime on an Austin Roberge 3 with 2 seconds on the clock. Noah Racine’s 3 to start OT gave the blue and white the lead that they never looked back from, winning 62-58. Roberge led the way with 34 points and Danny Epinette chipped in with 17 points and 13 boards.In game two, held at the Barre Auditorium, the ball club ran away from the North Country Wildcats by a 55-38 score. Sam King had 8 points and 10 rebounds.The Devils led by 17 at the end of the first half in game 3 against the Bellows Falls Bulls and they never looked back, winning by a score of 47-22. Zach Royer led the squad with 14 points and 8 rebounds.The Blue Devils finished off their championship run with a 54-32 win over the Derby Swishers. Epinette led the way with 27 points and 17 rebounds. Roberge added 17 points and 7 steals, and Royer had 10 points and 6 rebounds.The team also got big contributions from Brandon Croteau, Avery Rowell, Mitchell Roy, Robbie Diaz, and Cam Devereux.
