NEWPORT–Thursday marked the opening round of the inaugural four-course, four-day Northeast Kingdom Golf Tour.
The event features kids ages 8-15 taking on four of the area's premiere golf courses.
Not only does the tour allow some of the area's more established youngsters a chance to compete with other players, it serves as a way to potentially instill a love for the game that will stick with the kids as they get older.
Action began at the Newport Country Club, and the tour will feature stops at the golf courses in St. Johnsbury, Orleans and will wrap up at Jay Peak.
Tyler Smith of Derby Line took first place in the 12-15 year-old division, followed by Derby's Dana Morse.
Barton resident Jack King walked away with the win in the 8-11 age group.
Katie Goulet held top honors in the girls division with a 46, while Olivia King was in second with a 59.
The next stop for the tour is on Thursday the 26th at the St. Johnsbury Country Club
