Nelson Knight “Bud” Abbott

Cabot–– Nelson Knight “Bud” Abbott, 63, died unexpectedly on July 1, 2012, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born June 27, 1949 in Barre, the son of Knight and Ruth (Nelson) Abbott. He graduated from Cabot High School in the class of 1967. On August 8, 1986 he married Yolanda “Yogi” Hall in Woodbury.
In his earlier years he was a machinist for Elltee in Barre, The Vermont Machine Co. in Hardwick, Estabrook Engineering in Derby, and from 1979 until he retired he was employed by Russell Supply Co. in Burlington.
Bud was a member of Always Live in Vermont, The Green Mt. Masonic Lodge # 68 in Cabot, the Mt. Sinai Shriners and the Elks Club, both in Montpelier. He enjoyed collecting guns, trips to Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada, playing cards, gardening and the outdoors.
Survivors include a daughter Louanna Dutil and her husband Rick of Plainfield; a son Daniel Abbott of Cabot; three brothers: David Abbott of Tetonia, Idaho, Tim Abbott of Fairfield, and James Abbott of Cabot; a sister Diane Thompson of Barre; 4 grandchildren; two aunts, one uncle, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Yogi in 2010; a son, Douglas Abbott, in 1997; two brothers: Knight Abbott, Jr. in 1947 and Richard Abbott in 1977.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, July 4, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at the Northern Vermont Funeral Home, 60 Elm Street, Hardwick. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Machia of the Hope Community Church in South Walden officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Durant Cemetery in lower Cabot. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to the Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641. Arrangements are under the direction of Dian R. Holcomb of Northern Vermont Funeral Service, 60 Elm Street, Hardwick.
