North Country Band Holds First Ever Allegro Race

NEWPORT-As the morning fog lifted early Saturday morning, August 23rd, teachers, NCU staff, parents, siblings, band members, cross-country runners and NCU Band supporters gathered along the bike path at Prouty Beach for the First Annual 5K Allegro Run to support the North Country Union High School instrumental music program. Before embarking on the 5 kilometer race loop, contestants were challenged to “beat the band” by crossing the finish line before band members Gabriella Forte and Alexander Cotnoir. First place finishers in the following categories received giant home-baked cookies and RoadID gift certificates for their performances. 1st Place Men’s (18 and older): Peter Stuart, 18:27. 1st Place Women’s (18 and older): Leah Frost, 18:44. 1st Place Boy’s: Alexander Cotnoir, 17:15. 1st Place Girl’s: Emma Stuart, 24:26. 1st Place Male NCU Faculty/Staff: Christopher Shaffer, 19: 53. 1st Place NCU Female Faculty/Staff: Rachel Maxwell, 29:02. The NCUHS Cross Country team was recognized for strongest sports team representation. Congratulations to all participants and many thanks to teachers, volunteers, and the NCU Band Boosters for making this event possible!
