WILLISTON-North Country Union High Schoolâs girls golf team traveled to Williston Country Club on Monday for a practice round prior to Tuesdayâs State Finals.
Representing the team was freshman Katie Goulet, junior Tanika Demers, and senior/captain Paige Gagnon.
Each day was hotter than the next, and with the humidity and hilly course, scoring was a challenge.
Katieâs practice round was actually better than her competitive round by eight strokes.
Her 91 on Tuesday placed her 3rd in Division I and 5th overall in Vermont.
If she could have just traded days, she would have benn the state medalist.
The team placed 6th overall in Division I. Paige carded a 134, giving the team a total of 225.
Katieâs performance makes her eligible for the New England Championship on June 23rd in Keene, NH.
Katie took some time out after the match to speak about States, her season and the future.
Here is what the talented freshman had to say.
âAfter all the hard work, and dedication for the past 2 months, it all payed off. We lucked out because of the rain, and it ended up being beautiful weather.
âThe competition was fierce. There were so many good girls there today, and watching them all play just makes me want to work ten times harder.
âI started off my round well, had some trouble on two holes on the front nine, but finished with a 44.
âGoing into the back 9, I knew I had to pick up my game if I wanted to place. After the first four holes I was even.
âThen I had a bad shot, and everything went downhill from there.
âI am very happy for Sabrina and Cloe. It is very sad to see Sabrina leave, but now I have to practice for New England's and remember that I have to focus on the present, not the past, or the future, the present.
âI met some wonderful girls, and very encouraging coaches.
âMost of all, I had fun! I am already counting down the days until next season.â
