CASTLETON–The Vermont Softball Coaches Association, partnering with Castleton State College, gave the opportunity of a lifetime to thirty-six of the top softball players and coaches in the state when the group gathered for a weekend of softball at the North-South All-Star Series.
Catcher Chelsey Thibeault from Lake Region was the sole representative from Orleans County at the event.
The best of three series got underway on Friday as the players battled not only each other, but the gruelling heat as well.
The North swept the double-header, winning by the scores of 9-7 and 6-4.
While the North technically had the series won, the teams regrouped on Saturday to play the final game.
The finale´ was a nailbiter.
With the score tied in the ninth inning the south got a runner on base.
Following a stolen base, said runner would eventually cross home plate on a long fly ball for the wining run.
The meaning and the value of the weekend’s experience was not lost on the players nor the coaches, and everyone who participated in or watched the activities, did so in a completely professional manner.
And may I add that the games were a pleasure to watch.
This weekend is something that will stay with Chelsey and her teammates for many years to come.
