OLD PUMPER LIMPS ALONG
IRASBURG – The Irasburg Fire Chief says it is time for a new fire truck. The current 1984 pumper truck needs approximately $84,000 in repairs to bring it up to the required standards. The new truck is estimated to cost up to $225,000. Four dealers are in a bidding war over the truck, Fire Chief Robin Beaton said Tuesday. The town has not had good luck with purchasing used trucks in the past, Beaton said. A used truck would cost about $180,000 and could be without a warranty or near the end of it, and Beaton is worried about spending on repairs, as the town has in the past. For more of this story, see Wednesday's edition of the Newport Daily Express for Feb. 27, 2013.
