DERBY, VT - An impromptu motor vehicle rescue team consisting of Merrill Crawford and his friends (Ed and Alan) tackled pulling this 2500 GMC out of Lake Memphremagog at Strawberry Acres.
The vehicle had crashed through the ice when the driver “tried to cross a pressure reef,” Crawford said. He also said the driver politely declined to be identified.
The truck had been on the lake bottom for three days and was pulled to safety Wednesday, Feb. 8. No one was hurt in the incident.
The men had to slice away the ice with a chainsaw to complete the rescue.
From start the finish, the rescue took six hours.
