Police Called to Local Restaurant

NEWPORT CITY – Police and rescue personnel responded to the area around Habanero’s Mexican Grill yesterday. What actually happened is a bit unclear.
Newport Ambulance Service responded to the restaurant around 10 a.m., for a report of an unresponsive male in his late 30s. According to scanner reports, the person apparently declined to be transported the hospital. Sources close to the Express state that a local resident found a wallet in a nearby parking lot and turned it over to police.
Police are mum on what actually happened, except to say that they had a call at the restaurant.
“It’s an open investigation,” said Sgt. Seth DiSanto who becomes Newport’s new chief of police Aug. 1. “We did have a call there.”
