Police Investigate Missing Funds from Albany Fire Department

May 16, 2011

ALBANY — Jennifer Tolman, treasurer for the Albany Fire Department and a member of its school board, sent a public letter of apology to the Newport Daily Express recently on the heels of allegations that she may be responsible for the loss of over $6,000 from the town's fire department.
Following a recent audit, Fire Chief Donald Peters confirmed that he reported the findings to the Vermont State Police and suspected that charges either would be or have been filed against Tolman.
The Newport Express has received reports that the money has been paid back.
Chief Peters, who declined to say much about the case, said he thought the police would interview Tolman and issue a press release.
A letter, signed by Tolman, stated that she is resigning from all positions she has been elected to serve and will no longer be a candidate for any public office.
