ORLEANS-The BFA Fairfax Bullets used seven runs in the 5th inning to break open a close game en route to a 15-1 decision over Lake Region in high school softball Tuesday.
In what has become a recurring theme for the Rangers this season, poor defense opened the flood gates for a Fairfax club that has won 27 of their last 28 games. “Offensively, we’ve been doing some good things,” said Ranger coach Matt Tinker. “But defensively… man, we need to figure some things out.”
Winning pitcher Amanda Varney also rapped four hits for Fairfax, 8-0, while Brooke Naylor chipped in with a pair of singles.
Sarah Burnham was 1-for-2 for LR, while Michelle Thibeault took the loss.
“We knew we’d have to bring our ‘A’ game today,” said Tinker. “I’d say we brought our ‘D-‘ game. Our defense was inexcusable. We’ll go to work and be better prepared for them next Tuesday.”
