NEWPORT-The North Country girl's basketball team got their season underway at home against the U-32 Raiders on Saturday afternoon, but fell short in their quest for the win, losing 41-38 to the visitors.
"The girls showed a lot of heart out there and they made it clear that they are willing to work," said NCU coach Christiane Brown. "It is nice to see that we can run and push the ball, we just have to get some quality shots on the other end."
North Country's Kylie Jones scored 12 points and 10 assists for a double-double, while Madison Bennett also had 12 for the Raiders.
Hollie Smith added 9 points for the Falcons.
North Country will next be in action on Tuesday when they travel to Lyndon for a 7:00 tip-off.
