FAIRFAX-Softball wins in Fairfax have been few and far between over the last few years for Lake Region’s softball team, and that proved to be the case again as the home team broke open a close 7-5 game with five runs in the sixth in a 12-5 win.
Coach Matt Tinker said afterward, ”We were right there through five innings. I think interference could have been called in the fifth which would have made it 7-6 but we didn’t close well. I think Danika’s knee was barking a little bit and that affected her strike zone. We were only out hit 11-10 and made only one error, but they were the better team today.”
The Rangers were led by Corrina Cota who had a four for four day with two doubles. Cota leads the Rangers in batting average and has 15 hits this spring despite missing three games. Gallup and Burnham had two hits each for the Ranger girls. Lake Region is playing seven games in nine days to close out the 2011 regular season and stand at 7-3 overall.
