Rangers Fall to Leland and Gray 3-2 in Semi's

June 5, 2011

Sarah Burnham will be a force to be back next season to man the hot corner for Lake Region.

TOWNSEND-The Leland and Gray Rebels moved past the Lake Region girls in the semi-finals by the slimmest of margins, a 3-2 win in Townsend. Lake Region out hit Leland and Gray 7-4 but an early passed ball with no cover at home, single tallies from a three walk inning, and the only extra base hit recorded by the Rebels, gave the home team a 3-0 lead. Lake Region prevented further damage when left fielder Callie-Rae Cashin pulled in a fly ball and picked off a Leland and Gray runner as she scrambled back to second.
Although down 3-0, Lake Region came back as they have all spring when Carly Perron was hit by a pitch. Kayla Royer ripped a shot down the right field line scoring the first Ranger run and leaving Royer at third after a poor relay by the Rebel rightfielder. Corrina Cota promptly hit a long fly to center scoring Royer slicing the score to 3-2 after five. Lake Region had several other chances in the contest as they left nine men on base during the afternoon.
