Rangers Give Impressive Effort at States

FAIR HAVEN–Lake Region's track and field team was in fine form on Saturday, as they took third place overall in both the boys (63.4 pts.) and the girls (93 pts.) Division III meets.
For the girls, Emily Close had two first place finishes, taking home top honors in the 300m hurdles (48.83) and the high jump (4'8").
Tyrah Urie had a nice afternoon on Saturday.
She was second in the 100m (12.93), the 200m (26.31, .31 seconds from a D III state record) and the long jump (14'6").
Kayla Margola's throw of 33'11" was enough to have her finish second in the shot put, and Haley Kennedy was fourth in the 1,500m (5:24:21) and fifth in the 800m (2:41:22).
In the relay's, the girls had three top six finishes, 2nd in the 4x100 (53.73), 4th in the 4x400 (4:44:76) and 5th in the 4x800 (11:49:33).
Turning to the boys side, the team would take home one individual and one relay first place finish on the day.
Shaquille Urie's leap of 41'04" in the triple jump earned him the gold, and he was also part of the 4x100 team (Mosher, Lahar, Urie, Thibault, 46.38) that was the fastest foursome at the meet.
Josh Thibault also had a second place finish in the 300m hurdles (42.88).
Dennis Newland gave a solid performance, placing second in the high jump (6') and third in the long jump (19'7").
