DANVILLE–The Lake Region Lady Rangers traveled to Danville on Saturday, and they didn’t disappoint the fans that made the trip down to see them play. The Blue and White walked away with a 3-1 victory, much to the pleasure of their Head Coach Brad Urie.
Tyrah Urie got the scoring started for the Lady Rangers with just under 19 minutes to go in the first half. She took a pass from Kaitlyn Wright and knocked it into the back of the net to make it 1-0 Lake Region. But she was not done; just over a minute later she would score again. This time she took the ball unassisted up the left sideline, and scored from the 18 yard line, on a beautiful left-footed shot. This gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead and momentum.
Urie would get involved in another scoring play with 11 minutes to go in the first half. This time she crossed the ball and set up Ashley Locke, who redirected the ball into the back of the Indians net, giving Lake Region a 3-0 lead.
The Indians would tack on a goal right before halftime, as Theresa White scored from 20 yards out, cutting the lead to 3-1. But, that is all the scoring they would accomplish, and the teams entered halftime, with Lake Region leading 3-1.
The Lady Rangers had numerous opportunities to pad their lead in the second half, as the Urie-Locke combination kept pounding the ball inside. They also got good play out of their midfielders Celeste Lussier and Desirae Colorado, but the shots would not fall; and the game would end with a 3-1 victory for Lake Region.
Coach Brad Urie was very pleased with his team’s effort after the game.
“We finally got the girls to pass the ball on the ground and work it up the field. Defensively we did good, but we still need to communicate better.” Coach Urie also stated that, “9 players in new positions is a big thing for us. We are 3 games into the season and this is definitely the best game we have played all year.”
The win moves the Lake Region squad to 2-0-1 and they will look to pick up another win when they travel to Oxbow on Wednesday, September 21. Game time against the Olympians is set for 4:30.
