ORLEANS-The Lake Region girls broke open a 3-3 deadlock with a four run fourth, paving the way to their fifth straight victory, 8-3 over Richford. Senior hurler Danika Gallup went the route scattering four hits and helping the cause with three hits along the way.
It wasn’t easy as Richford ace Cayla Messier was firing strikes rapid fire. The Rangers got on the board when Gallup, choking up on the bat, knocked a drive into right center where it was mishandle into a roundtripper, scoring the Ranger pitcher. Two innings later an eight pitch at bat by freshman Corrina Cota resulted in a hard drive that split the Rockets outfielders for a solo homer, her second of the year.
Richford rallied for the only three runs they would get, sandwiching two hits, a walk, and an error into a 3-2 lead.
That lead was short lived as LRUHS struck back in the bottom of the fourth. Paige Wells led off with a walk. She stole second and scored on a Gallup base hit, tying the game. Emily Comins got on via a single and after a bunt single and another error by Richford, the Ranger girls put three more runs on the board.
Pitch hitter Karen Potter delivered a two out single the next inning giving Gallup more than enough runs for Lake Region. Callie-Rae Cashin drove home the final digit with an infield out.
