Ribbon Cutting at Sheffield Wind Towers

SHEFFIELD — Vermont's Burlington Electric Department is now receiving electricity from the Sheffield wind project. The blades on the huge wind turbines have been spinning for about a week.
A ribbon cutting ceremony for the project will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, and some protesters of Vermont's wind projects are planning to be there.
Gov. Peter Shumlin is expected to be at the ceremony.
According to the Associated Press, officials at the municipal electric department that serves the state's largest city say they have contracted to buy 16 megawatts from the Sheffield project, which has a capacity of generating 40 megawatts. Sheffield is expected to provide Burlington Electric with 13 percent of its total energy needs.
